I’m sure like most of you, I was disappointed but not entirely surprised to hear that the present federal and state guidelines for COVID-19 have been extended. As you should know by now we’ve been posting tons of follow-along lessons and workouts online to keeps families active at home, along with training logs to record training/results at home. (We even have some parents who previously weren’t active in the program who have jumped in to train with their kids!)
But even though the building is closed to classes, that doesn’t mean we’re completely inactive. As I write this I’m getting ready to repairs walls, do a thorough cleaning of the carpets, and complete strip, wax, and buff of the tile floor at the school. I’m pretty excited to tackle some of these projects and make the school even better for when we return to classes.
Most would not know this about me, but I spent a couple years cleaning floors at night when I was going to college during the day (and taking karate in the evenings.) My boss at the time only told me one thing about running the floor scrubbing machine. “When you turn it on, make sure you’re in the center of the biggest open room in the building. Because it’s like wrestling a wild bull.” He wasn’t wrong. The 18-year-old, sleep deprived me struggled like crazy to wrestle that thing under control as it ran wild all over the floor and banged off walls and tables everywhere. I’m embarrassed to say it took me a long time to figure out the trick to handling it smoothly. But I did eventually get the hang of it.
In short, I wanted to say we really miss everyone. You, the families, are a huge part of what makes this school so amazing for us. I can’t wait to see all of you back again at the academy again. But in the meantime we’re doing what we can to make everything at the academy an even better experience for you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get ready for a date tonight… I’m gonna see if I still have what it takes to wrestle the bull.
